Computational Investigation of Inclusion Removal in the Steel-Refining Ladle Process

نویسندگان

چکیده

In a steel-refining ladle, the properties of manufactured steel can be notably degraded due to presence excessive inclusions. Stirring via gas injection through porous plug is often used as part process reduce these this paper, 3D computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling analyze transient multiphase flow and inclusion removal in gas-stirred ladle. The effects stirring with bubble-inclusion interaction are analyzed using Euler–Euler approach for modeling, while inclusions aggregation modeled population balance model (PBM).

Modeling of Inclusion Removal in Ladle Refining

Gas injection is widely used in secondary refining processes to homogenize chemical composition and temperature and to remove inclusions. It is an industrial requirement to minimize the size and concentration of inclusions in the product while minimizing production time to save energy and lessen refractory wear. Gas bubbling is effective to increase the cleanliness of steel mainly by two mechan...

INVESTIGATION ON SLAG-REFRACTORY INTERACTION IN LADLE USING COMPUTATIONAL TECHNIQUES

Abstract: Thermodynamic computational packages MTDATA and FactSage have been used to carry out calculations on the variation with temperature of the phases precipitated on cooling in both oxidising and reducing conditions of a typical ladle slag composition, in the temperature range 1700 - 900°C. The current coverage of the databases associated with the computational packages is discussed i...

Impacts of Modification of Alloying Method on Inclusion Evolution in RH Refining of Silicon Steel

This study explores the effect of introducing additional alloy elements not only in a different order but also at different stages of the Ruhrstahl-Heraeus (RH) process of low-carbon silicon steel production. A more economical method, described as "pre-alloying", has been introduced. The evolution of MnO-FeO inclusions produced by pre-alloying was investigated. Results show that spherical 3FeO·...
